Chris is a reporting fellow at the New York Times and a George J. Mitchell Scholar. At Duke University, he studied political science, English, and journalism. He was homeschooled and grew up overseas in Asia for most of his life. After graduating high school, he participated for a year in a Christian outdoor leadership program in upstate New York. Part of the program involved trips to Ecuador and Guatemala, where he discovered the importance of building God’s kingdom through loving and serving the global poor.
Chris also has a deep passion for telling people’s stories through writing. The summer of 2019, he participated in an internship with Operation Mobilization (OM), a Christian missions organization, which involved writing journalistic profiles about various OM workers and ministries. This further opened his eyes to the necessity of loving God and others in wholehearted, sacrificial ways. At Duke, he was involved in writing for the student newspaper as well as for an undergraduate journal of Christian thought. He sees writing as a powerful gift from God to clearly communicate His truth and beauty.
During his free time, Chris enjoys reading, rock climbing, running, and spending time with family and friends.
