Love generously.
Give simply.
Hire a Philanthropic Advisor and give with more confidence, clarity, and joy.
Something is broken in modern philanthropy. Many donors do not have the capacity to do the hard work of researching charities and managing relationships with nonprofits.
According to a national study on affluent donors:
Here’s the problem: You want to be generous, but you don’t want to waste your money.
96% of givers don’t feel like experts in philanthropy.
59% experience giving as less than very fulfilling.
And 58% don’t know if their giving is making a difference.
Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” Hire a philanthropic advisor and gain confidence, clarity, and joy in your generosity.

60% of affluent givers don’t have a strategy. Having a strategy for your philanthropy clarifies your calling. This enables you to determine which opportunities to say “yes” to, and, just as important, which ones to decline.
We define a Philanthropic Strategy as a plan of action to love generously. Each of us has a unique calling in our philanthropy. Simple Charity’s holistic process will guide you to craft a strategy to give, serve, and pray in response to your life story, biblical Scripture, and social realities.
Changing the world starts with a strategy.

What does healthy nonprofit due diligence look like?
Efficient data management
We leverage a growing database of nonprofit analytics to serve our clients, going far deeper than online charity evaluators like Charity Navigator or Guidestar.
Holistic evaluation
Our analysts interview nonprofit staff and beneficiaries on behalf of our clients. We gather both quantitative and qualitative information on nonprofit operations, culture, and impact.
Biblical and prayerful
Our team embraces a biblical worldview, which informs our understanding of human flourishing. We conduct our work with prayer and aim to pursue God’s Kingdom on earth.
Encouraging and positive
Most nonprofit leaders are making significant sacrifices to work on important social problems. We pray for the nonprofit leaders we engage on behalf of our clients, and encourage them.
Systems thinking approach
Charitable causes are complex and require deep study. Our team has engaged a wide range of philanthropic “verticals” and regularly engages the evidence on what’s effective, and what’s not.
Capacity-building feedback
We help nonprofits improve, regardless of whether our client makes a gift. We provide organizations honest feedback and connect them with content, consultants, and other charities in the same field.
Read about five questions to ask to determine if philanthropic advising is right for you.

-
The goal of nonprofit work is to impact the stories of human beings. Every nonprofit has a “mission” to influence a specific set of human stories. If we’re going to understand impact, we have to consider how it occurs within the complexity of narratives. We have to listen to the organization’s beneficiaries and ask questions that go deeper than surface-level metrics.
-
Though most charities have websites that paint themselves as the sole hero, the reality is that every charity exists within a web of institutions which includes other charities, government agencies, churches, and businesses. The most impactful charities put the mission first as they navigate relationships within that ecosystem. This often looks like a posture of open-handed generosity towards like-minded organizations.
-
Too often, people evaluate charities based on inputs (How much money do they raise?) or outputs (How many people do they serve?). Instead, we should evaluate charities based on outcomes: What evidence do they have for stories of life change? Effective charities measure outcomes so that they can have confidence that they are positively impacting life stories. They are transparent about their measuring methodology and have high standards for their data.
-
Organizational health is a result of strong leadership and a life-giving culture, not just whether the charity can check the box that they have an independent Board. Assessing organizational health requires interviewing staff members and paying attention to metrics like turnover and salaries. While some donors reward charities for low salaries, this could be a red flag that the organization will not be able to hire and retain talent.
Most people ask the wrong questions when evaluating a charity.

OUR APPROACH
We search for evidence-based, holistic programs.
We have evaluated thousands of charities. From our research, we believe that some forms of helping can be counterproductive. Charities have variable levels of impact, and some even cause harm.
When serving a client like you, we look for nonprofits that have evidence for positive outcomes from research and program evaluations. We also look for charities with cultures that promote body, mind, and soul flourishing through healthy relationships.
We are inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus.
We believe that all people are made in the Image of God and that following Jesus is the path to true life. We are passionate about helping Christians give to serve the needy, advance the Gospel, and strengthen the Church.
We believe that solidarity with people experiencing poverty and injustice is an essential component of the Christian faith and a part of the abundant life.
We believe philanthropy is a kind of hospitality.
Many people experience the world as a harsh place. Healthy and effective nonprofits offer hospitality to orphans and vulnerable children, refugees, unbelievers, and people experiencing poverty, trauma, or injustice (to name a handful of the causes that we care about).
Giving allows us to participate in these acts of hospitality. We believe that giving is a powerful way to love our neighbors, near or far. We can give without loving, but we cannot love without giving.
