Build community as you fight poverty and injustice.

Simple Charity chapters serve and give to fight local and global poverty.

W H O W E A R E

Simple Charity college chapters are a movement of Christian college students learning from, standing with and sacrificing for the poor together. We do it, not out of guilt or obligation, but from a place of joy because we believe the poor are King Jesus in disguise.

Currently, we have active chapters at:

Abilene Christian University

Duke University

Grove City College

University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

University of Virginia

FAQs

  • College chapters do three things: 1) learn, 2) serve, and 3) give. Chapter members learn about five areas of poverty and seek spiritual formation through retreats and community. Chapters also serve in their city by researching local nonprofits and volunteering regularly. Looking outward, chapters fundraise for recommended charities around the world and donate to causes they love. In sum, chapters witness to the radical generosity of the Gospel by being doers, not just hearers, of the Word.

  • Simple Charity supports chapters and creates content for college students to grow! Chapters have access to our Bible study guide “The Good Life and Poverty” as well as the Profession of Practice on our website. Our Two Coins podcast and Solidarity Challenge devotional are available to everyone on Spotify and our online store, respectively. Simple Charity also financially supports and facilitates Journey of Generosity (JOG) and Secret Church retreats for a weekend off-campus.

  • Chapters typically meet for an hour per week to pray, learn about thoughtful poverty alleviation, and plan for fundraisers and service opportunities. Outside of meetings, chapters often fundraise and serve locally on monthly rhythms. Leadership teams tend to meet weekly for ~30-45 minutes, and presidents from all colleges meet monthly with Simple Charity staff. The total time commitment is about 2 hours per week for leaders and as much time as you want to invest in the community!

  • If you are passionate about our mission and seeking the kingdom of God on your campus, we encourage you to start a chapter! College chapters are more like a service group than a Christian ministry—many of our current chapters gather believers from different ministries to serve together and grow in compassion for the vulnerable. If you are interested in planting the seeds for such a community, we would love to connect with you!

  • The first step is to fill out the interest survey above! We will schedule a call with you to connect and hear about your interest in starting a chapter. We can also discuss practical next steps including building a leadership team and registering a club with your school. If you have any questions about starting a chapter, please don't hesitate to reach out—we look forward to meeting you!
