100% of donations on this page will go toward HBCUvc, a nonprofit fighting for economic inclusion and equity.

Simple Charity is committed to standing in solidarity with the Black community.

We believe that solidarity means union regardless of proximity.

We know God made each of us in His image. When one of us suffers, there’s a sense of brokenness that affects us even if we don’t know the person.

We desire to live out God’s heart for justice as it is stated in Amos 5:24: “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

However, we cannot merely make statements of solidarity. We must also put solidarity into practice by loving in deed and in truth (1 John 3:18).

In response to the injustices being brought to national focus, we hope to raise an offering that is pleasing in the eyes of the Lord by supporting an organization that is committed to redemptive work and racial equity.

Our three aims for this campaign are:

  1. LEARN: The role of the church is to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and to act as a redemptive force, However, the first step to fighting an enemy is acknowledging that it exists. We must educate ourselves on the systemic injustices facing Black and brown communities, the privilege that white Americans have and the role each of our communities play in upholding unjust systems.

  2. GIVE: We believe in being good stewards of God’s resources, including our finances. We invite you to pray and seek what the Holy Spirit would have you give to organizations like HBCUvc.
    1. Our goal is to raise $13,000 for HBCUvc by July 30th. Please give if you are able. All amounts are helpful, from $5 to $5,000. Every bit makes a difference!
    2. You can give on this webpage below or on our FB fundraising page here.

  3. PRACTICE: We believe that our habits and practices form our loves and eventually, our virtues. During this campaign and beyond, we are committed to having justice-centered conversations among our staff and interns as we continue to prayerfully reflect on how to support our brothers and sisters of color. We encourage you to have those conversations as well, with your family, classmates, friends, or co-workers. Doing so takes courage, because these conversations are hard. But these conversations are essential as we seek to become just and virtuous individuals in tune with God’s heart.

    1. Additionally, more steps of habit include: joining prayer marches (at your level of comfort and health), signing petitions and uniting with us in prayer!

    2. On July 14th, 2020 we will be hosting a Day of Prayer and Fasting to cry out and lament for our nation and world. To join, please fill out this quick form and we’ll send you this fasting guide and a series of reflection questions!

Join us in letting justice roll. To help us reach our goal, you can give on this page. You can also learn more about HBCUvc and their mission for racial equity by reading more below:

HBCUvc is a Venture Capital Fellowship at Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs) that works to increase racial diversity in the venture capital industry to build racially inclusive economies.

By creating more Black and Latinx venture capitalists and fund managers, they will increase the pool of funding available for entrepreneurs of color, and ultimately create job and wealth opportunities for communities of color.

As they state on their website, they provide:

  • Micro investments (equity-free) for technology entrepreneurs and technical assistance
  • Mentorship, peer communities, and leadership development for emerging venture capital leaders
  • Access to paid internships and fellowship programs for students exploring careers in venture capital

Through this work, HBCUvc is changing the mindset of the people who work in this industry in holistic and generational ways. VC’s partnering with entrepreneurs can increase the total wealth in a community in a way that is healthy and sustainable.
